Honestly, I was worried that whoever read my novel might feel in some way obligated to sugarcoat the truth, but that was not the case. I had never used Red Adept’s Alpha Reader service before. It was recommended to me by a friend and fellow author. I wanted my manuscript to be as good as it could be prior to a major edit and a review by a third party sounded like the way to go.   

I worked with a young lady named ‘JLynn.’ She identified several problematic areas with characterization that needed redoing. Beyond that, as a reader with no knowledge of the back story, she also convinced me to rewrite sections of the manuscript to answer her (in retrospect) obvious questions. That is forehead slapping time for an author. An ‘Of course, why didn’t I notice that?’ moment.  

In the end, JLynn was able to improve my novel dramatically. Her comments were succinct and drove to the core of the issues present. They were easily amended and in the end, I finished with a much stronger draft. 

Which just goes to show, the more eyes who see your manuscript prior to publication is not only a good thing personally, but a necessary thing professionally.
