Lynn O’Dell

Founder and Publisher of Red Adept Reviews

Chief Editor / Reviewer

A native of the South, I have lived in many states, and even overseas in Germany while in the Army. I currently reside in North Carolina with my wonderful boyfriend, Chuck, and my Border Lab, Scooby. My 21-year old son lives within a mile of us. I have been a lover of books all my life, so I really enjoy my reviewing and editing jobs.

Chief Proofreader / Reviewer / Publicist

I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, where I’ve lived my entire life. My wife Deborah is my best friend and perfect soul mate. I’m a retired civil engineer, and if you’ve driven through Georgia, you’ve probably been on a highway that I designed. I’ve always been a bookworm, and now I love reading on my Kindle. I also love photography, and my images have been featured in publications such as National Geographic, Popular Photography, and Parade magazines.

Proofreader / Reviewer / Alpha Reader / Publicist

I was born in Pennsylvania, through fickle fate and where my mother happened to be when she went into labor, but I grew up in the Detroit area and now live in beautiful Northern Minnesota with a very patient and supportive husband. I have a passion for reading, inherited from my mother and grandmother, but the thing I’m most shaped by is my love of animals and my belief in rescue.

After growing up and going to college in Washington State, I settled in Southeast Alaska. Now, I soak up the rain with my wonderful husband, two wild daughters, and geriatric pug. I love reading, writing, and teaching music.

After 35 years living in Colorado and Texas, we are back “Home on the Range” in our “Little House on Prairie”.
I like reading, sewing, antiques and Classical music with an emphasis on Opera.
Recently retired and looking for something fun to do, I found Red Adept Reviews through my Kindle.
I’ve been married for 34 years to my old dancing partner from college. We’ve traveled both inside and out of the US for business and pleasure.
We love being back in a rural community with all the charms and drawbacks of small-town lving. The skies are clear blue, the air is fresh and your ears buzz with the silence and the gossip over the back fence.
After many years of urban living, we’re back on the High Plains where we were born and raised. Everything seems strange and yet, familiar.

Ages ago I moved from southern California, where I grew up, to go to college in Washington state and love it here. I spent a year working with big cats (lions, tigers, etc) and now have my own small zoo, complete with my African crested porcupine Quillamina, my coatimundi Kate, a Patagonian cavy named ROUS, and many others, both exotic and domestic. I have also been doing animal rescue for 12+years. When my world doesn’t revolve exclusively around feeding and cleaning or my real job as a dog trainer I’m a crafting and book addict.

Reviewer / Proofreader

Mamasylvia holds two bachelor’s degrees, the first in journalism and the second in nursing. A lifelong voracious reader, she was so determined to raise children who could WRITE that she homeschooled them all the way to highschool graduation. She was ecstatic to discover the potential of e-reading and loves carrying a dozen books on her smartphone and hundreds on her Kindle 3 with Special Offers. In fiction, she demands likable characters and involving, coherent storylines. In nonfiction, the author must present accurate information in an interesting and organized manner. Travel books and cookbooks always catch her eye. She also thinks telling you *why* she liked or didn’t like something is imperative, so you can decide whether you will like or dislike it too.

I have it on good authority that I was born with my nose in a book. That unsettling sight may be why no one else in my family is a reader!  Seriously, I always loved to read, and always read well above my grade level growing up.  In middle school I discovered my lifelong love for medieval history, which eventually lead to a M.A. in Medieval Studies.  My dream was to work in a museum, but like most dreams, it never came true.  But I still consider a heavy tome of medieval history to be ‘light reading’!  Now, I spend my days messing around with computers to pay the bills and my evenings serving as a lap for 3 cats.  Besides history, my favorite genres are mysteries and fantasy.  J.R.R. Tolkien is my favorite author, and his works an incredible influence in my life; Dorothy L. Sayers is a close second.

I spent most of my childhood with my nose glued to a book, and am still rarely without a stack from the library, though pesky little things like college classes keep getting in the way of my reading. I will read just about anything, though my favorites are sci-fi/fantasy, humor, mystery, historical fiction, suspense, paranormal…and so on and so forth. I occasionally write short stories as well. I am kept well in hand by my cat Felice, aka Squeaky.

When I need to relax, I like curling up with a mug of tea and a grammar handbook, puzzling over English like it’s some Sudoku puzzle. Let’s just say I stopped carrying sticky notes in my purse shortly after I encountered a particular poster at college and leave it at that, okay? (…Oh, that was your kid getting grammar lessons from someone in an online game? Can’t imagine how I know about that.) If I’m not proofreading, reading, or writing, I’m probably tutoring someone, crocheting a toy, knitting lace bracelets, or eyeing more tatted jewelry for my collection.

Becky Eagleton

Editor

Before falling in love with editing, Becky Eagleton was a professional dancer and choreographer for 25 years.  Before that she was a poet… an equally lucrative career choice.  Along the way, she has served as editor for a law firm, a dance foundation, and a middle school.  Since 2006, she has been editing fiction manuscripts and writing novels and short stories, and you can read her stuff in the Fall 2009 journals of Fifth Wednesday Journal, New Plains Review and BloodLotus (online journal).  She has three teenage children, a partial M.A. in English Literature, and a deep and abiding love for the hills of Tennessee, though she currently lives in Oklahoma.  (Tornadoes can be pretty cool.)

Born and raised in the Midwest, I fled the snow and ended up in Southern California. After about ten years, I started to migrate slowly up the coast, and now I find myself in Seattle, WA. I am a verbivore (Richard Lederer’s name for a real bookworm!) and a nitpicker, and my favorite thing to do is read books and make sure all is well with them! My motto is, There is no such thing as too many books — only too few bookshelves!

Cassie Robertson

Proofreader

I’ve spent most of my life with my nose in a book, so becoming an editor is a dream come true. I have a master’s in Shakespeare, which basically means I’m a Shakespeare geek with a degree to prove it. I live in Tampa, FL with my cat Cinna (bonus points if you get the Shakespeare reference) and the world’s coolest roommates.

Rosemary Fifield

Editor

Born and raised in Wisconsin, I’ve lived in Vermont for 37 years, the last 30 with my husband in the log cabin we built together. I’ve worked in clinical medicine and am currently the education director for a consumer cooperative. In my spare time I write novels, fuss over a dozen laying hens, and enjoy the shenanigans of grandchildren ranging in age from one to twenty-something (I can’t keep track.). I’ve published four Kindle books: Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground, Lonely Souls, Found days, A Road Well-Traveled.

A West-coaster all my life, I choose to see more magic in the everyday than most people allow, because it’s far more fun that way. I was the child who curled up indoors with a good book on a sunny day. I prefer fantasy, sci fi, historical fiction and mystery novels, but I’ll read anything with a good plot and intriguing characters. When I’m not reading, I’m writing my own novels, geocaching, reading science articles, or making puzzles.

Sally Bennett

Reviewer

I’ve been a reader my entire life: while still in elementary school, I would haul grocery bags full of books home from the library. I turned my love of words into a profession, as a freelance copyeditor and indexer of over 200 books. In addition, I’ve had several articles and reviews of books and software published in general-interest and specialty magazines and journals and have written several novels. I play violin in a studio orchestra and in pit orchestras around town, fiddle in a honkytonk band, and call traditional square and contra dances. After a few decades in Arizona, I returned to my roots in Wisconsin a few years ago.

Emily Johnson

Editor

Emily was raised on the East Coast, lived in the Midwest, and has resided in California for the past 30 years. She currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, Scott, and her disabled adult daughter, Annie. She has an older married daughter, Megan, who lives in Austin, TX with two adorable (in her unbiased opinion!) grandchildren. Emily’s hobbies are landscape design, gardening, reading, and volunteering for Special Olympics.

Sean Fox

Editor

Sean grew up reading the collected works of fantasy stalwarts like R.A. Salvatore, Margaret Weis, and Tracy Hickman. But it wasn’t until the age of eleven – when he was first exposed to Harry Potter – that Sean truly fell in love with books. Since then, he’s been skipping meals and foregoing social events in favor of “just a few more pages.”

In addition to reading, Sean is an avid soccer fan and player. He zealously supports Blackburn Rovers, a team in the English Premier League. He played soccer at the NCAA Division III level and now plays for a local amateur team. Sean is also a writer, currently working on several projects he hopes to release soon.
